cURL for accessing morphbank ids

by Katja ~ July 18, 2008

Here is an example page using this cURL code: basically scrapes the return from a services XML response document for id tags and builds the urls to embed images and link back to those records. Here is the services page.

<?php

//basic for scaping a page in morphbank; using cURL instead of how first written with file_get_contents()

$ch = curl_init();
$timeout = 5; // set to zero for no timeout
curl_setopt ($ch, CURLOPT_URL, 'http://services.morphbank.net/mb2/request?method=xml&keywords=Alysiinae+Whole+Body&objecttype=Image&limit=10&firstResult=0&format=id');
curl_setopt ($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
curl_setopt ($ch, CURLOPT_CONNECTTIMEOUT, $timeout);
$data = curl_exec($ch);
//curl_close($ch);$regex = "/\<objectid\>(.*?)\<\/objectid\>/";
curl_close($ch);$regex = "/\<id\>(.*?)\<\/id\>/";
preg_match_all ($regex,$data,$match);

foreach($match[1] as $matchId ){
echo '<a href="http://morphbank.net/?id='.$matchId.'"><img src="http://morphbank.net/?id='.$matchId.'&imgType=jpg" /></a>' ;
}
